James H. Oakes, 59, of Belvidere, died Monday, March 31, 2008 in O.S.F. St. Anthony Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer. Born December 10, 1948 in Danville, Kentucky, son of Robert Jessie and Mary Susan (Hardigree) Oakes. He has been a Belvidere resident since 1977, coming here from Dublin, Indiana. He married Helen Joyce Hunter in Dublin on April 21, 1973. He was employed as a Tool Maker for Pactive Corporation for 20 years. He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. Jim was a member of the American Legion Boone Post #77. In his spare time, he enjoyed Hunting and Fishing. He is survived by his wife Joyce, his son, Darrin (Andrea) Oakes and step-granddaughter, Shawnee Klatt, all of Belvidere, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents.
