James L. "Pete" Weaver, 92, of Belvidere, Illinois, passed away peacefully August 2, 2026. Born on February 9, 1934, the son of Violet (Walls) and Jasper Weaver. Pete lived a life defined by hard work, family, service to his country, and a genuine love for those around him.

Pete proudly served his nation in the United States Air Force before beginning a long career at Sundstrand, and he entered retirement in 1987. He remained active in his community throughout his retirement, devoting more than 20 years to producing newsletters for the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a proud member of the American Legion, VFW, and UAW Local 2051.On August 26, 1956 he married the love of his life, Marilyn, and they spent 70 years together and were blessed with three daughters.

A man who enjoyed working with his hands and his mind, Pete found great satisfaction in woodworking, electronics, photography, and computers. Long before they became commonplace, he built Heathkit televisions into the wall and even assembled his own reel-to-reel tape deck. He was proficient in using Linux operating systems. Pete embraced his passions and had a photography room in his home. He also enjoyed bowling and golfing and treasured the friendships those hobbies brought. His life was an example of quiet strength, and his legacy will continue through the family he loved so dearly.

Pete is survived by his devoted wife, Marilyn Weaver; his daughters, Barbara (Bill), Brenda, and Beverly; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his brother Bill; his sister, Judy; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply.

Pete is predeceased by his parents, Jasper and Violet Weaver; and his siblings, Maxine, Vivian, Dewey, Ralph, and Harold.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church. Located at 610 Bonus Ave. Belvidere, IL 61008.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church or Northern Illinois Hospice.
