James C. "Jim" Lamont, 86, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away Monday evening, February 15, 2016, at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, Illinois. Born December 14, 1929, son of Robert E. and Ina (Lindquist) Lamont. He graduated from Monroe Center High School in 1947. Jim was in the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division and was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. Jim married Barbara Doerr on January 10, 1952, in Freeport, IL, at her aunt's home. His love of farming inspired the family's move to Boone County in 1955. He was employed at J.L. Clark (Clarcor) for 47 years, starting in the maintenance department and retiring as Plant Operations Manager in 1995. He was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Belvidere for 57 years, where he served as deacon and was on the church council. Jim enjoyed fishing and taking vacations to the Northwoods of Wisconsin with his children and extended family. He was a fan of watching Belvidere High School sports, coaching BYB, and coaching his grandchildren's basketball teams. Jim was a Junior Achievement Advisor and participated with the United Way.
James is loved and missed by his children, Linda (David) Schumann of Buffalo Grove, Deborah (Allen) Sisson of Belvidere, James Lamont Jr. of Belvidere, Brenda (George) Lehman of Belvidere; grandchildren Stephanie (John) Hugentober, Angela Lamont (Jarrod), James Lamont III, Kathryn (Ryan) Zarembski, Brian Sisson, Rebecca Sisson, Michael Lehman; step-grandson, Josh Lehman; great-grandchildren, McKenna Lamont, Maren Hugentober, Natalie and Abigail Zarembski; siblings Delbert (Sara) Lamont, Edith (Chuck) Wheeler, Janet (Richard) Swenson, Robert M. (Gyneth) Lamont, Judy (Vic) Zoellick; sister-in-law, Janice Lamont; brother-in-law, Herb Streed, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, in 1985; infant son, Allen; his parents, brother, Boyd Lamont, and sister, Margaret "Jean" Streed.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1300 Pearl Street, Belvidere, IL 61008 with the Rev. Scott Stolberg. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will take place in Belvidere Cemetery.
