Obituary

James F. Hyland, 91, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin residing there since 1998, formerly of Green Valley, Arizona, Gainsville, Florida, and Belvidere, went to his eternal home Sunday May 15, 2005 at Aurora St. Luke Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin following a brief illness. He was born in Belvidere, Illinois on January 11, 1914 the son of Thomas S. and Mary (Behling) Hyland. Married to Alice M. Barth on April 25, 1936 in Belvidere. He was employed as a draftsman for Mattison Machine Works of Rockford, was the first manager of Dodge Lanes in Belvidere, and was a bowling proprietor in Gainsville, Florida. He was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church of Sheboygan, a former member of Immanuel Lutheran, Belvidere where he taught Sunday school for 26 years, was past president of the congregation for 6 years, and was chairman of the building committee that erected the current Immanuel Lutheran School. Was a former Belvidere City Alderman – Ward II. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and golf. Was a graduate of Rockford Central High School – Class of 1931. Survivors include his wife Alice, son; Rev. James R. (Marcia) Hyland of Phelan, California, daughter; Judy (Kirt) Merriman of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, brother; John Hyland of River Falls, Wisconsin, and a sister-in-law; Irma Hyland of Belvidere, 4 grandchildren; Kelley and Tracy Hyland, Tiffany and Katie Merriman, 3 great-grandchildren; Stephanie, Chaz, and Trevor Hyland. Predeceased by parents, sister Ettie Peters, 2 brothers Herman and Aurthur Hyland.
