James Robertson Gillen, 75, of Rockford, Illinois passed away October 31, 2016 at home. He was born on March 11, 1941 in Glasgow, Scotland, the son of Andrew and Elizabeth (Davidson) Gillen.  He was very proud to have become a citizen of the United States and was also proud of his Scottish Heritage. Before coming to the United States, he worked for the Street Cars in Scotland. Later in life he would retire from Rockford Air Devices as a machinist. James loved gardening, fishing, reading, crosswords, puzzles, watching the news and jeopardy, and most importantly he loved his grandchildren.

James is loved and will be missed by his family including, Scott (Julie) Gillen, Linda Gillen Hannon, Debra (Harry) Boyden, Cindy (Greg) Rogers, Ethel Carey, James (Kim) Gauf, William Cooper, Karen Dalton, Steve (Judy) Mckiness; brother, William (Sheena) Gillen; sister, Betty (William) Shiels, as well as his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Dorothy.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave, Belvidere, IL 61008 with Rev. Lorenzo Sanders officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 until time of service. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the family.
