Belvidere, IllinoisIrma Mae Hyland, 90, of Belvidere, IL died peacefully, Tuesday morning, December 11, 2007 in Maple Crest Care Center. Irma was born April 3, 1917 in Winnebago County, Illinois, the daughter of Ray and Ellen (Grey) Pierce. She graduated from Rockford high School with the class of 1934 and then married Arthur I. Hyland on January 1, 1935. Irma was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Belvidere and the ladies guild, quilting and sewing circle and the "Over 60's" group of the church. She volunteered her time with the Crusader Thrift Shop in Rockford. She was a member of the Belvidere Rural Home Extension, and a former Election Judge. Irma was an avid gardener and a former member of the Department of Agriculture's Soil Conservation Services. She was known for her quilt making and pie baking.She is survived by her children, Arthur L. (Virginia) Hyland of Belvidere, Thomas R. (Penny) Hyland of Belvidere, Robert A. (Sharon) Hyland of Rockford, Delbert A. Hyland of El Paso, TX Donald E. (Julie) Hyland of Normal, IL; sisters Mildred Sassaman of Rochelle, Il, Joyce (Jerry) Hobel of Rockford; brother, Ralph (Virginia) Pierce of Westmont, IL; 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; 2 Great-Great Grandchildren.Irma is preceded in death by her parents, husband Arthur and brother, Raymond Pierce.

A memorial will be established with Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Keen Age Center in her memory.
