Irene E. Anderson, 93, of Belvidere, died May 31, 2008 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 12, 1914 in Manheim-Sand Hofen, Germany to Friedrich William and Hedwig (Klöpfel) Seitz. She immigrated to the United States in 1956, where she resided in Carpentersville, Illinois for many years. She then moved to Belvidere four years ago. She married Wilhelm Dotterer, he died during WWII. She then married James William Anderson in Germany on January 3, 1953. She was employed as a Train Conductor during WWII. She was very compassionate to the American P.O.W.'s in Germany, which was a great personal risk. Her hobbies included, knitting, handcrafts, crocheting and listening to german music. She taught herself English. She received her U.S. Citzenship in 1968.Irene is survived by three children, Karin (Heinz) Schneider, Manheim, Germany; Ingeborg Dotterer-Etherton, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Eric (Jeanne) Anderson, Belvidere, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by both husbands; two children, Christa Dotterer-Poppe and Willie Dotterer; two sisters, Lucy Seitz, Nellie Ochmann; two brothers, Armin and Fritz Seitz.
