Iona J. "Scoop" Narestad, 100, of Belvidere, passed away, Wednesday morning, August 3, 2016 at  Northwoods Care Centre. She was born June 16, 1916 in Belvidere, IL, daughter of James and Retta (Ferdon) Hayes. Iona married Evan Narestad in 1937 in Belvidere. She was employed by the National Sewing Machine Company and Super Valu Bakery. Iona was a softball player in her younger years, where she got the nickname, Scoop. She was even approached to play for the Rockford Peaches. She loved watching all kinds of sports in her spare time.

Iona is survived by niece and nephews, Judy (Charles) Byers, Jim (Linda) Lewis, and Jim Hayes, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, twin sister, Iola (Leslie) Lewis; sister, Dorothy (Howard) Sellers; brother, Jim (Marge) Hayes; and step-siblings, Helen Sellers, and John Hoage.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave, Belvidere, IL 61008 with Rev. Dr. Robert Kopp officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial in Belvidere Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Belvidere.
