Howard J. "Howie" Stokes, 83, of Cherry Valley, IL passed away peacefully at his home on November 30, 2020. Howie was born on August 8, 1937 in Rockford, IL to Ernest and Frances (Doonan) Stokes. He married the love of his life, Gloria Foss, on August 4, 1962 in Rockford, IL. They had 58 beautiful years together. Howie worked in the janitorial department at Swedish American Hospital for a number of years before retiring. He loved to play horseshoes and cheer on the Chicago Cubs and Bears. As soon as Howie finished watching, "The Price is Right" he would watch his favorite show, "Walker Texas Ranger", he never missed an episode. Most importantly, Howie loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Hannah. He would bring her everywhere with him.

Howie will be dearly missed by his wife, Gloria; children, Barbara Schumaker, Jeffrey Stokes, and Rebecca Lambert; siblings, Nancy Larson, Frank Stokes, William Stokes, and Henry "Hank" Stokes; granddaughter, Hannah; constant canine companion, Sammy; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Carl Foss and Alice Foss; sister-in-law, June and late husband, Marvin Ortberg; and son-in-law, Dave Lambert.
