Belvidere, ILHoward K. Cross, 98, a life long Belvidere and Boone County resident, died Wednesday March 24, 2010 in Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, after a brief illness. Howard was born November 2, 1911 in Boone County the son of Percy and Florence (Kern) Read Cross. He married Doris P. Pixler on October 11, 1936 in Joliet, IL. Howard worked for Keeshin Trucking Co for several years and then spent the remainder of his career working out of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 as a foreman. At heart, Howard was a frustrated farmer. He enjoyed working the ground and reaping the fruit of his labor. He is loved and will be missed by his family; including daughter, Karen L. Cross of Belvidere; son, David W. (Judy) Cross of Louisville, KY; special daughter, Gloria (Craig) Totz of Belvidere; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Howard is predeceased by his parents, wife and sister, Ruth Withrow.
