Obituary

Horace M. Silvius, 86, of Belvidere, died Friday, August 17, 2007 in Swedish-American Hospital following an extended illness. He was born on September 13, 1920 in Terra Cotta, Illinois, the son of Dell and Blanche (McCoy) Silvius. Horace married Dorothy Rosene in Rockford, Ill. on June 6, 1943. He was a self-employed Farmer. Following retirement, he worked as a Maintenance Engineer for the Patton Co., Rockford and later for former Eagle Supermarket, Belvidere. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army Medical Battalion from 1941 to 1947. He held the rank of Sergeant. Horace was a member of First Baptist Church and twenty-five year member of the Boone County Volunteer Fire Protection Dist. 1. He was a former member of the Beaver Valley Grange. In his spare time he enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Belvidere: three children, Barbara Clark, Salem, Ind.; Wendell (Carol) Silvius, Hatley, Wis.; Jean (Myron) Peterson, Severn, Maryland. Seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers.
