Hobert R. "Shorty" Sims, 86, of Rockford, died Saturday, June 17, 2006 in Nelson – Debes Subacute Center following a short illness. He was born June 13, 1920, the son of David and Henrietta Sims. Lived 56 years in Rockford, coming here from Alabama. He was married to Mildred L. Hardy, in Rockford, Illinois on November 5, 1966. He was employed as a Stock-handler for National Lock Co. for many years retiring in 1982. He also held the same position at A-1 Wire Company for several years retiring in 2000. "Shorty" was veteran of WWII serving in the Army. He was a very active member of Eagles Club #392 and member of the U.A.W. Local #449. In his spare time he enjoyed garage sales, flea markets and pull-tabs. "Shorty" is survived by 2 daughters, Sheila (Roger) Fleming; Tina (Mark) Barrick, both of Rockford; 3 sons, Roger Sims, Pensacola, Fla.; Randy (Karen) Sims, Pecatonica, Ill.; and Kevin Sims, Rockford; 3 step-daughters, Patti (Lyle) Lee, Belvidere; Gloria (Harlan) DeVries, Marshville, Wis.; and Beverly Hardy, Rockford; 1 Step-daughter-in-law, Linda Hardy; 17 grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 25 step-great-grandchildren; predeceased by his parents, wife; step-son, Robert Hardy, 1 granddaughter and 6 brothers. The family wishes to extend a warm Thank-You to the caring staff of Alma Nelson Nursing Home.
