Herbert D. "Detroit Danny" HopkinsBelvidere, IllinoisHerbert D. "Detroit Danny" Hopkins, 64, of Belvidere, died Thursday, November 24, 2011 in Swedish-American Medical Center, Belvidere, following a sudden illness. He was born on February 5, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Bruce and Rosalie (Leathers) Hopkins. Herbert married Corene Elizabeth Bryan in Detroit on September 30, 1968. He retired with 35 years as a corporate auditor for Chrysler. He owned the Belvidere Window and Carpet Cleaning for 25 years, and also co-owned with his wife, the C & D Waterfall Party Bar. He was a member of the Illinois Liquor and Beverage Association. Herbert supported the Belvidere YMCA and St. Jude's Childrens Hospital. He is survived by his five children, Debra (Jason Franek) Hughes, Deann "DeDe" (Mark Hyde) Hopkins, Dawn (Rogelio) Garza, Daniel Hopkins, Carrie (Jackie Washington) Hopkins, all of Belvidere; nine grand-children, Shane Listenberger, Cody Ray Hughes, Kayla E. E. Hughes, Jessica Garza, Ashley Garza, Samantha Franek, Mariah Ceballos, Christopher Yerk, and Jazmin Washington. At the time of his death, he was expecting his first great-grandchild. His significant other, Sandy Buckingham and her daughter Shaianna Guerro, both of Belvidere; five brothers and a sister. Herbert was preceded in death by parents, wife in 2009, and two sisters.
