Harry E. Powell, 66, of Belvidere, died Saturday, January 21, 2006 in his home following a short battle with cancer. Born November 4, 1939 in Belvidere, Illinois, son of Samuel and Dorothy (Hartung) Powell. He was raised by his grandparents, Harry and Florence Powell. Harry lived most of his life in Belvidere. He married Elvira Mongan in Janesville, Wisconsin on November 24, 1988. He was employed as a Professional Driver by Perkins Transfer Co. 22 years, Shannhowe Transportation and retired in May 2005 from Cadie Transport. Former member of First United Methodist Church, Member of the Belvidere Moose Club; Member of the Rock River Steudebaker Club. He was an avid car and truck restorer. His present project was his 1946 Studebaker truck. Harry loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a loving husband and will be missed by all. He attended Belvidere area schools.Harry is survived by his Wife, Elvira, of Belvidere; three daughters, Marla (Ed) Magoon, McHenry, Illinois; Margo Powell, and Kimberly (Tom) Hill, both of Rockford; son, Marty (Laura) Powell, Belvidere; four step-children, Kristine (Ronald Ball, Rockford; Dawn (Ellis) Mundy and Kevin (Marci) Hagemann, both of Belvidere; Lisa (Richard) Ivancso, Rockford; Step-father, Norman Posey, Rockford; a brother, Sam (Carol) Powell, Monticello, Wisconsin; three step-brothers, Lee Gurrera, Houston, Texas; Steve Posey, Rockford; Gary Posey, Oregon, Illinois; two step-sisters, Karen (Owen) Howard, Oregon, Illinois; Gayle Posey, Rockford; 15 grandchildren.Preceded in death by parents, a sister, Cheryal Hemmingway and grandparents.A special thank you to O.S.F. St. Anthony Oncology Department, especially Drs. Irene Boswell, Mete Korkmaz George Bryan and their staff and Northern Illinois Hospice Association for their great care.
