Harry R. Bement, Jr. age 71, of Belvidere, IL died Thursday evening, August 25, 2005 in Biltmore Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness. Harry was born March 27, 1934 in Orfordville, Wisconsin the son of Dr. Harry R. and Mabel (Johnson) Bement, Sr. Harry graduated from Orfordville High School where he played the trombone in the band. Over the years, Harry worked in a number of areas including Fairbanks Morse in Beloit, Rock County Sheriff's Department; but his career was spent working for Chrysler as a Fire and Security Guard for 25 years. Harry married Priscilla Jacobson on May 5, 1956 in Beloit, Wisconsin. He retired on October 31, 1989 the following day he started driving the Keenage Bus for the Boone County Council on Aging.Harry served our country in the US Army for 2 years in the 4th Armored Division as a Military Police at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Harry was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, United Plant Guard Workers of America and a former member of the Fire and Police Commission and a 32degree mason. Among some of Harry's hobbies were working on cars, canning tomatoes and cooking and going to garage sales.Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Priscilla of Belvidere; sons, Terry J. Bement (Pauletta)of Machesney Park and Ralph (Laura) of Freeport; granddaughter Samantha May and grandson Evan Bement; great grandchildren, Alexis, Micheal and Brianna.; sister Georgianne (Art) Shaefer; nephew, Randy (Debbi) Shaefer; niece Penni (Kurt) Korte. Harry is predeceased by his parents, aunts, Neva Nelson and Amanda Johnson and uncles, Sig Johnson and Julius Johnson.
