Elwood Martenson, 85, of Belvidere, died Thursday, March 11, 2010 in Alden Terrace of McHenry following a short illness. He was born June 11, 1924 in Cherry Valley, Illinois, the son of Harry Edward and Viola C. (Beck) Martenson. Elwood married Priscilla Mitchell in Belvidere on May 30, 1956. She died May 28, 2002. He was employed as a maintenance man for Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home for many years and retired due to health reasons in 2008. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Force. Elwood was a member of the American Legion Boone Post 77. He is survived by his two daughters, Pamela (Keith) Dean, McHenry, Illinois; Patti (Michael) Cooper, Stockton, Illinois, a son, Wayne (Laura) Packer Machesney Park, Illinois; six grandchildren, Paula (Jim) Fitzgerald, Karen (Chris) Stvrtecky, Michael (Tonya) Packer, Alissa (Bill) Burden, Chris (Colleen) Cooper, and Stacey Cooper; five great granddaughters and a great grandson. In addition to his wife, Elwood is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marvin.
