Gregory G. Serafin, Sr., 63, of Belvidere, IL, died peacefully, October 8, 2021, in Rockford, IL. He was born to George T. and Anna D. (Warmus) Serafin, November 23, 1957, in Oak Park, IL. He graduated high school and attended carpentry school. He married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Forsythe, February 1, 1975, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Elgin. He worked as a carpenter and general contractor for many years and then retired. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church and member of the Carpenters Union, Local #363 and a member of the Suburban Teamsters where he met many lifelong friends over the years. He was also a skilled woodworker, building and remodeling many homes during his career. He loved cooking, doing projects for family and friends, and working on cars. He loved his cats and his family. Greg was a Jack of all trades with a great personality and sense of humor. His smile and laugh was infectious and will be remembered by all that knew him.
Greg will be loved and dearly missed by his wife, Nancy; children, Gregory (Jannette) Serafin, Jr., Jennifer (Richard) Corcoran, and Susan (Marian) Jasko; siblings, Christina (Steve) Sandin, Justina Serafin, Andrew (Tammy) Serafin and Anthony (Carol) Serafin; grandchildren, Dustin Serafin, Nicolas (Delaney) Corcoran, Larrissa Serafin, Anna Corcoran, Allison Corcoran, Jonathan Corcoran, Lucas Jasko, Alexandrea Corcoran, and Matthew Jasko; Great-grandchildren, Kaydin Serafin and Emberlynn Serafin; many nieces and nephews; and beloved pets. He is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Celestina Serafin.
A visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with rosary soon after, Friday, October 15, 2021, at Anderson Funeral & Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Avenue, Belvidere, IL 61008. A funeral mass will be at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 16, 2021, at St. James Catholic Church, 402 Church St, Belvidere, IL 61008. Father Schuessler will officiate. Burial at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Belvidere. In Greg's honor, memorials may be made out to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center Health Care Foundation atwww.osfhealthcarefoundation.org.
