January 10, 1944 – September 5, 2021
Glenn Randall Palmer, 77, of Rockford, IL passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, September 5, 2021, in Anam Care of Rockford, after a lingering illness. Glenn was born January 10, 1944, in Oak Park, IL the son of Glenn C. and Vernice (Edberg) Palmer. He married Gail Strom on October 9, 1971, at Court Street United Methodist Church in Rockford. Glenn earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Wartburg College and his master's degree from Bradley University. Glenn taught school in Peoria, IL and then spent his career teaching for the Rockford Public School District, at Lincoln Middle School, Jefferson High School, and East High School. Glenn especially enjoyed summer vacations with Gail and Greg to Wisconsin, Mackinac Island, and Va. Beach.For several years, Glenn spent a week away from his family volunteering with Burpee Museum of Natural History on Archaeological Digs, in the western states. In retirement, Glenn and Gail were able to travel with family and friends. Glenn made his spiritual home at Court Street United Methodist Church where he was involved with the United Methodist Men, Journey Men, Staff-Parish, Trustee's, Finance, and Endowment boards.
Glenn is loved and will be missed by his wife, Gail; son, Greg and his faithful, feline friend, Sammy.Also, surviving sister, Trisha (Kit) Gillman of Joliet, IL; brother, Ron (Deb) Palmer of Bloomington, IL; nephews; Ryan, Nick, Chris (Christi) and grandnephews Luke and Jake; and many cousins. In addition, surviving: sister in-law, Dawn (Steve) Mansfield of Virginia Beach, VA, nieces Kate (Scott) and Elizabeth, and grandnieces; Sydney, Abbey, Alinsley, and Addison. Glenn is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and father and mother in-law, John and Tiny Strom.
A Private service to celebrate Glenn's life will be held at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Avenue, Belvidere, IL. Live streaming of Glenn's service may be viewed at Glenn's obituary page at AndersonFCS.com at 1:30 p.m. on September 23, 2021. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in care of Court Street United Methodist Church, 215 N.
