Obituary

Glenn R. Clapsaddle, 84, of Cherry Valley, died Sunday, January 11, 2009 in his home from a sudden illness. He was born October 29, 1924 in Rockford, the son of Ruth (Shirley) and George "Pete" Blackmer. He graduated from Kirkland High School, Class of 1942. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He married Shirley (Baxter) Clapsaddle on April 12, 1947 in Rockford. Glenn was a lifelong resident of Cherry Valley. He owned and operated Glenn's Sinclair Gas Station in Cherry Valley. He later worked with his brother-in-law, Ross Rainwater for thirty years retiring in 1996. Glen was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed going for boat rides and fishing with his sons and grandsons and Sunday dinners at his son's home. He always looked forward to partaking in the "noon-shake" at Concordia Lanes in Belvidere and visiting with his friends there. He is survived by two sons, Gene (Ronetta) Clapsaddle, Tipler, Wi. and Jerry (Nora) Clapsaddle, Rockford; five grandchildren, Ashley Clapsaddle, Tipler, Wi., Shane and Jacob Clapsaddle, Sarah Axelson all of Rockford, and Daniel (Rebecca) Axelson, Brisbane, Australia; his uncle, Gail Henry, The Villages, Fl. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shirley in 1972, his aunt, Rachel Henry and dear neighbor and friend, Fred Zumbragel.
