Gilbert Romine, age 90 of Belvidere, Illinois died Friday morning, December 2, 2005 in his home after a lengthy illness. Gilbert was born November 18, 1915 in Champaign, Illinois the son of William and Ethel (Brownfield) Romine. He married Helen E. Green on April 10, 1939 in Kinmundy, Illinois. Gilbert is now resting beside his beloved wife and life long companion of 65 years. He worked for Barber Coleman for 40 years retiring in 1978 as an inspector in the quality control department. He loved to fish, play cards and he played softball until age 67. He was an exceptional checkers player, having beaten the world champion Merlin Tinsley some years back. Survivors include his children, Carolyn (George) Goodall, LeRoy (Cheryl) Romine and Gale (Connie) Romine all of Belvidere, IL; fourteen Grandchildren and 27 Great-Grandchildren and his beloved dog and companion Casey. Gilbert is predeceased by his parents; wife, Helen; sisters, Lois Smith and Hazel Correll and brother, Donald Romine. The family wished to acknowledge Steve McCollum for his dedicated care given to Gilbert.
