Gertrude E. "Trudy" Swanson, entered into eternal rest with her Lord, on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. She was born June 27, 1927, on the family farm in Garden Prairie, IL, the daughter of Herman and Amelia Koch. Trudy graduated from Belvidere High School and went on to marry the love of her life, Kenneth Swanson on July 15, 1951, in Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she participated in the Mary Martha League, Lutheran Women League, bible studies, choir, the counters and bulletin prep. Trudy was a past president of the Kishwaukee Quilters. She and Ken were longtime volunteers with the Boone County Conservation District where they enjoyed making soap at the Autumn Pioneer Festival. Trudy enjoyed quilting and rose mauling. She and Ken enjoyed time at the cabin in Chetek, fishing, playing cards and scrabble. She was well known for her cookies, breads, and desserts.

Trudy is loved and missed by her children, Ken Swanson of Belvidere, Kathy (Eugene Firguson) Barlow of Carbondale, IL, and Kurt (Pam Springer) of Freeport; her brother, Bob Koch, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth, and siblings Edward, Dorothy, Mildred, Hazel, Laura and Gordon.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 28, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1045 Belvidere Road, Belvidere, IL 61008 with Rev. Allan Buss officiating. A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, August 27, 2017 at the church. Burial in Belvidere Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
