Gerald Nelson, 81, of Belvidere, IL died Monday morning, July 17, 2006 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center after a lingering illness. Gerald was born March 5, 1925 in Shirland, Illinois the son of Renius and Ellen (Carlson) Nelson. Gerald attended schools in Boone and Winnebago Counties, graduating from Boone-McHenry High School in 1943. Gerald was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy with the 8th Naval Fleet in Europe and North Africa. He owned and operated farms in Boone County for 60 years along with his brothers. Survivors include his sister, Arlene (Leroy) Swanlund of Belvidere; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gerald is predeceased by his parents; sisters, Blanche Robbel, Helen Mayhew, Florence Guler; brothers, Paul and Harold.

In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established with Truth Baptist Church in his memory.
