IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gerald
Hulstedt
August 11, 1940 – February 11, 2026
Gerald C. Hulstedt, 85, of Belvidere, Illinois, passed away peacefully, in his home, surrounded by family. Gerry was born on August 11, 1940, to Hazel (Swanson) Hulstedt and Walter Hulstedt. A lifelong resident of Belvidere, Gerry devoted his life to his family, his faith, and the land he loved.
In May of 1962, he married the love of his life, Lynne. Together they built a life rooted in faith, hard work, and family. Gerry spent his entire career as a farmer, a calling he embraced with pride and dedication. Farming wasn't just his livelihood; it was who he was.
Gerry had a strong and faithful affiliation with the Evangelical Covenant Church of Belvidere, where his faith remained an important foundation throughout his life.
In his younger years, Gerry enjoyed drag racing and tractor pulls, always appreciating the thrill of horsepower and hard work. He loved staying busy and could rarely sit still for long. Whether he was mowing his yard or working in the fields, he found joy in being productive. Many in the community fondly remember slowing down as they passed the farm to see him on his lawn mower and exchange a friendly wave.
Known affectionately as "Bumpy" by those who knew him best, Gerry especially loved harvest time. In his later years he took great pride in "supervising" the work on the farm and cherished riding along in the combine with his son. He enjoyed going out to eat and never had trouble finding someone willing to join him for a meal and good conversation.
Sharp as a tack, Gerry carried a wealth of knowledge about his family history, Boone County history and farm life. His stories, wisdom, and steady presence will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his son, Greg (Jane) Hulstedt; daughter-in-law, Michelle Hulstedt; grandchildren, Erika, Katie (Joseph), Sarah, Heidi (Adan), Wyatt (Kaylee), and Garrett; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Harrison; along with many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lynne Hulstedt; his parents; and his son, Grant Hulstedt.
A walk-through visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 2pm until 5pm at the Evangelical Covenant Church, located at 220 Harrison St., Belvidere, Illinois. A service for Gerry will be held the following day at 10am, with burial at Belvidere Cemetery to follow.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to the Evangelical Covenant Church.
Gerry's legacy of faith, hard work, and devotion to family will live on in all who knew and loved him.
