George H. Schmidt 85, of Poplar Grove, IL passed away Tuesday evening, July 14, 2015 in his home.  George was born April 17, 1930 in Long Grove, IL the son of Herbert and Pearl G. (McLosa) Schmidt.  He graduated from Kirkland High School with the class of 1948.  He married Helen T. Schafman on July 1, 1950 in Belvidere.  George was a lifelong grain and dairy farmer.  He enjoyed camping in the UP of Michigan, hunting and attending farm shows and auctions.  As a young man he worked on a thrashing crew, which stemmed a lifelong interest in steam and antique tractors.

George is loved and will be missed by his wife, Helen; daughter, Karen (Gordon) Richardson of Lake Summerset; son, Alan Schmidt of Poplar Grove; grandchildren, Chris, Jamie (Cathy), Jere (Nicole); great grandchildren, Emma, Morgan, Daniel, Cody and Brenden.  George is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Doris Britton Cascio and a niece.

A memorial gathering and celebration of George's life will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, July 25, 2015 in Blaine United Methodist Church.  Cremation rites have been accorded and a private burial will take place in Blaine Cemetery.  Memorial contributions can be made in care of the family.  Arrangements by Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Chapel, 218 W.
