George H. Pitts, 92, of Rockford, IL, formerly of Belvidere, IL, died peacefully, Wednesday morning, August 15, 2012 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center after a sudden illness. George was born December 17, 1919 in Chicago, IL the son of George H. and Elin (Kroon) Pitts. He married Ruth E. Carlson on May 2, 1947 in Belvidere, IL. George retired in 1982 after spending over forty years working for the Sundstrand Corp, where he was a machine operator and later a process planner. He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Belvidere and The Gideons International. George graduated from Eagle River, WI High School and enjoyed returning to his boyhood home in Conover each summer. George also had a passion for woodworking and keeping his yard impeccably manicured, even winning the Yard of the Month. George is loved and will be missed by his wife Ruth of Rockford; daughter Carolyn (Mark) Lindahl of Iron River, MI; daughter in-law Lynne Pitts of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren Katie (Rev. Jamie Milton) Lindahl of Mineral Ridge, OH, Matt (Beth) Lindahl and Tim Lindahl both of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Lindsey (Micah) Juedes of Memphis, TN and Sarah (fiancé Luke Pan) Pitts of Wausau, WI. George is predeceased by his parents and son Howard.
