George W. Lee, 84, lifelong resident of Belvidere passed away Sunday May 8, 2005 at Neighbors Nursing Home in Byron. He was born June 8, 1920 in southern Illinois to Ivan and Naomi (Waller) Lee. He attended school in southern Illinois. He married Velma Stine in 1946 in Cisne, IL. She preceded him in death in 1958. In 1964 he married Elma Paul in Durand, IL. She preceded him in death in 1997. He served in the U.S. Army for 4 years, transporting troops and supplies while stationed in England during WWII and received the Bronze Star for his service. George loved our country and showed that through his deep patriotism. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the VFW. George was known for handing out gum, candy, or whatever he had in his pocket to the neighborhood kids. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and they were very special to him.He is survived by his daughters; Linda (Dan) Neubert of Byron, Catherine Sell of Belvidere, grandchildren; Heather (Chad) Johnson of North Carolina, Andrea Neubert of Ohio, Melissa Neubert of Belvidere, Autumn Neubert of Carbondale, Joe Neubert, Richard Neubert, Keinen Neubert all of Byron, Gregory Sell, Michael Sell, Matthew Sell all of Belvidere, great grandchildren; Hannah Johnson, Christina Johnson of North Carolina, sisters; Mildren, Goldie Mae, Carolyn, and brother; Eber. He is preceded in death by both spouses, his parents, granddaughter Renee Sell, 5 sisters, and 1 brother.
