George A. Greenlee, 68, of Rockford, IL passed away suddenly Thursday evening, February 10, 2022, in the emergency room of OSF St. Anthony Medical Center after a sudden illness.George was born October 28, 1953, in Belvidere, IL the son of Lawrence R. and Darlene L (Friels) Greenlee. He married Cheryl E. Wienk on January 27, 1978 in Belvidere, IL.George worked as a mechanic for various companies including Burton Motors until the age of 50 when he earned his CDL.At that point he lived out his dream job as a truck driver, driving for Veterans Trucking, retiring in the fall of 2021.He made his spiritual home at Open Bible Church in Belvidere.George had many passions in life.He enjoyed target shooting and earned his concealed carry permit for the state of Illinois; he was an aficionado of John Deere tractors; he loved to tell stories and back them up with photos from his phone. He cherished his 1970 Dodge 'Cuda, that he proudly drove in the cruise nights of Belvidere, in the 1970's.This 'Cuda was also the car that brought Cheryl and George together; he was a fan of Road Dog radio show.
George is loved and will be missed by his wife, Cheryl; children, Chad (Melissa) Greenlee, Michelle (Brian) Schulz; grandchildren, Darlene (fiancé Michael Sweeney) Niezgodzki, Pluto (Dani) Brenner, JC Alvardo; brother, Bob (Marge) Greenlee, Cousin Jeanne Westphal; brothers and sisters in-law, Lawana Franseen, Ken Wienk, Bruce Wienk, Becky (Paul) Pearce, Barb (Gene) Eicksteadt, nieces, nephews and cousins. George is preceded in death by his parents, aunt; Delores Best-Proctor; brother in-law, Mike Carlson.
The funeral service for George, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday February 17, 2022, in Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Avenue, Belvidere, IL with Rev. Dan Pope, pastor of Open Bible Church officiating. Cremation rites will take place following the service. The visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday February 16, 2022, in the funeral home.
