George W. Ambler, age 81, of Belvidere, died in his home Monday morning, Sept. 25, 2006, following a lengthy illness. He had been a Belvidere area resident most of his life. He was born in DeKalb County, on May 31, 1925. He was raised by his grandparents, George and Ettabelle Ambler. He married Geraldine M. Leonard Wych on Jan. 22, 1972, in Belvidere. He farmed early, worked for Cassens Trucking and for Orkin in pest control and most recently, owned and operated Ambler's Stump Removal, Belvidere, retiring in 2004. He attended St. John's United Church of Christ. He was a nine year veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War in the Pacific Theatre. Survivors include his wife, Geraldine; stepson, Allen (Barbara) Wych; step-grand-children, Lisa, Julie and Andrew Lennon; sisters, Frances Harriss-Miller of Sycamore, Georgia (Richard) Freeman of Genoa and Terry (Chuck) Criswell of Genoa; brother, Gary Roden of Janesville, Wis.; godchild, Tammie Criswell-Corn. Predeceased by mother, Orcelia Ambler; sister, Ettabelle Butts; brother, William Roden; step-daughter, Bonnie Lennon.
