Gayle Sue Yerk, 71, of Marengo, IL, passed away on December 12, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 20, 1953, Gayle was the daughter of Jean (Mundy) and LeRoy Mathison. A devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, Gayle touched the lives of many with her kindness, creativity, and deep sense of community.
Gayle's work ethic and commitment to service were shaped by her early years helping at her family's coffee shop, Jean's Coffee Shop, also known as "The Corner" in Poplar Grove. Over the years, Gayle worked in various local businesses, including manager at Swiss-Maid Bakery, Walmart in Human Resources, cleaning houses, and Sullivan's grocery store in Marengo where she was known for her dedication and customer care.

On January 1, 2001, Gayle married Russell Yerk, the love of her life, and together they enjoyed 23 years of marriage built on shared values of family, quality time, and community involvement.
An incredibly talented crafter, Gayle was known for her creations in crochet, mosaic stained glass, and many other art forms. She participated in the Marengo Holiday House Walk creating Christmas crafts for 17 years and loved sharing her latest projects. Her creativity and generosity in sharing her talents left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Gayle loved the adventure of estate sales, having her own yearly garage sales, creating art, and most importantly, spending quality time with her family. She was a proud grandmother who cherished regular movie nights and dinner outings with her grandchildren, when both young and grown.
Those who knew Gayle described her as crafty, feisty, funny, and smart. With her quick wit, infectious smile, and the ability to bring people together, she left a lasting legacy of love and laughter.
