Obituary

Gary Allan Payne, 62, of Belvidere, IL, passed away on September 7, 2025. He was born on February 19, 1963, in Huntley, IL, the beloved son of Mary Louise (Lagerhausen) and Ronald Allen Payne.

Gary had a deep appreciation for nature and spent much of his youth fishing and participating in the 4-H Club. He remained a lifelong supporter, returning each year to the Boone County Fair to admire the arts and crafts created by young members—a tradition he cherished.

A talented and passionate artist, Gary pursued his love of art at the Ray Vogue College of Art and built a long, successful career in graphic design. He most recently retired from KMK Media, and previously worked for many years at Beloit's PlayMonster Inc. (formerly Patch Products), as well as a variety of publishers. His creativity spanned decades, expressed through countless paintings, drawings, and other works of art.

On May 27, 2017, Gary married the love of his life, Stacy (Brosier). Together, they built a life full of love, joy, and adventure—traveling to Alaska, Washington D.C., and enjoying evenings of dinner and theater at the Fireside.

Gary was known for his charm, humor, and thoughtful nature. He delighted in bringing joy to others, often showing up to family gatherings with board games or a deck of cards to share quality time. He took great pride in his home and yard, always striving to create a warm and welcoming space for family and friends.

Gary will be remembered for his kind spirit, creative soul, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

He is survived by his wife, Stacy Payne; daughters, Amy and Erin Payne, his mother, Mary Louise Payne; siblings, Daniel (Carla) Payne, Sherry (Robin) Borchardt, Steve (Leslie) Payne, mother and father-in-law, Patricia and Michael Brosier; sister-in-law, Jean Brosier, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends he loved dearly.

He is welcomed into heaven by his father, Ronald Payne, and nephew, Scott Wellhausen.
