Gary Allen Blackman, 77, of Garden Prairie, passed away at home on May 30, 2025, after a brief illness, surrounded by the love of his family. Gary was born on February 18, 1948. The son of Dorothy and Warren Blackman.

On February 21, 1972 he married the love of his life, Shelba (Knutson), beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, laughter, and unwavering dedication. He was a dedicated husband, proud father, and adoring grandfather. His life centered around his family.

Gary will be remembered for his silly jokes, quirky comebacks, made-up songs, and fierce dedication to those he loved. He was a man of quiet strength, deep sentiment, a comforting routine, and a constant presence, who's absence will be deeply felt.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Boone County First Responders and to Father Tim Mulchaey for their care and support.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Shelba Blackman; daughters, Cammi (Chris) Gates and Trina (Travis) Morgan; grandchildren, Andrew (Kate) Gates, Abby Gates, Brady Morgan, and Bennett Morgan; and great-grandson, Graham Gates. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who he loved dearly.

Gary is welcomed into heaven by his parents, his infant daughter Angela, as well as two brothers.

Gary's visitation will be Friday, June 13 between the hours of 9-11am at Anderson Funeral Home. Located at 218 W. Hurlbut Ave. Belvidere, IL 61008. Funeral Mass to follow at 11am at St. James Catholic Church. Located at 402 Church St, Belvidere, IL 61008. Burial will be at St. James Cemetery.
