Freda L. Gough 91, of Belvidere, Illinois died Monday afternoon, March 7, 2005 in her home after a lingering illness. Freda was born January 14, 1914 in Newton, Illinois the daughter of Charles and Bettie (Williams) Spaggins. She married William A. Brooks on May 7, 1934 in southern Illinois and then married Maynard Gough on December 23, 1966 in Genoa, Illinois. Freda graduated from Newton IL High School and Northern Illinois University and was employed as a teacher, first at Caledonia School and then at Evergreen School in Rockford. Freda retired after 18 years of teaching in 1977. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Belvidere, where she sang in the church choir, was a member of Ada Stearns Fellowship, was involved with a community women's Bible study every Thursday at the church and taught Sunday school. She was a member of Winnebago-Boone Retired Teachers Association, Belvidere Federated Women's Club, Highland Hospital Auxiliary, Belvidere Community Concert Association and Bonus Grange.Survivors include her daughters, Nyla (Harold) Cadie of Belvidere, Linda K. Kane of Poplar Grove, Lorna R. Nitz of River Falls, WI; sister Neva Fibrow of Rockford, Il; 13 grandchildren, Theresa (Steve) Merenhoh, Mark Durham, David (Sheralynn) Durham, Brenda (David) Quast, Paul Durham, Kim (Kyle) Rosenberg, Jacob Durham, Robbin McKibben, Kerry McKibben, Kelly (Chris) McKibben, Nicole (Greg) Ottens, Elizabeth Nitz, Jennifer Nitz; 18 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Freda is predeceased by her husband Maynard Gough, parents, brothers, Lavern and Rogene Spraggins, great grandson Aaron Durham.

A memorial will be established at First Baptist Church in her memory.
