Francis Eugene "Gene" Simerl passed away, Tuesday, October 17, 2017. He was born April 3,1925 in Greenup, IL, son of Jacob F. and Elsie Simerl. He married Robinette Keller on August 14, 1954 in Chicago, IL.

Gene is survived by his wife, Robinette; daughter, Elizabeth (Bradley) Straw; grandchildren, Sherri (David) Gretschmann, Jason (Megan Johnson) Straw and Addison Barrone; great-grandson, Oliver Bradley Straw. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, David Simerl; brothers, Lawerence Simerl, Bertram Susdorf; sister, Mildred (Harold) Washburn and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, October 21,2017 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave, Belvidere, IL, 61008 with Rev. Tom Hay officiating. A visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., prior to the service. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be given to the Boone County 4H Dairy Committee, Boone County Gardeners of America and the Ned Hollister Bird Club.
