Flossie S. Ellsworth, 90,Flossie Ellsworth died June 21 in her home, surrounded by loved ones, after completing all her tasks and saying her final goodbyes. Flossie was born in Gilman, Illinois March 28, 1922 the daughter of Pearl (Cox) and Allen Skinner. She obtained her teaching certificate from Blackburn College and later completed her BA in Elementary Education at Rockford College. At 20, Flossie began her teaching career in a one room rural schoolhouse in Northern Boone County, then teaching 2nd grade at Poplar Grove Elementary until she retired in 1988. After retiring, Flossie continued to pursue her interests in her grandchildren, travelling, and hot air balloons. She was well known for her love of purple, and she had great affection for all living things (except monkeys) and especially cats and penguins.Her life of service extended well beyond the countless lives she touched as a teacher. She served on the Hunter Methodist Church Board, Hunter United Methodist Women, Secret Sisters, Sunshine Club, HEA, Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Eastern Star, Livingston Cemetery Board, served as an Election Judge and on the Manchester Planning Commission, and logged many volunteer hours at the Belvidere Historical Museum.Flossie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Marion (Kessler), and many friends. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Daley; her son, Stanley (Dorothy) Ellsworth; her grandchildren, Aaron (Rebecca), Adam (Morgan), and Alison Daley, Emily and David Ellsworth; three great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special caregivers, Fiona and Luke VauVau. Also, many thanks extended to the wonderful people at Hunter Church who brought her food, laughter, and companionship in her final years.
