Florence “Ann” Thompson, 79, of Belvidere, Illinois, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2026. She was born on August 9, 1947, to Dorothy and Marshall Sargent.

Ann was united in marriage to Howard “Bud” Standish, from February 20,1970 until he passed on April 8, 1999. She found love again with Robert Thompson and they were wed on October 22, 2011. She dedicated 46 years of her working life as a magnetic inspector for Arnold Engineering, a career she took great pride in.

Ann was a devoted member of the Belvidere Church of Christ, where her faith was an important part of her life. She especially enjoyed QVC shopping, watching cooking shows, camping, and, most of all, spending time with her large and loving family.

To her family, Ann was affectionately known as “The Warden.” She was described as sassy and spicy, a woman who ruled with an iron fist, but underneath that strong personality was a heart that was always loving and kind. Ann had a way of making her presence known and will be remembered for her strong spirit, quick wit, generous heart, and unwavering love for her family.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Thompson; her children, James (Janelle) Standish, Debra (Daniel) Gray, Brian (Shelly) Standish, Bill (Chris) Thompson, Dan (Tammy) Thompson, Bobbi (Kevin) Mahley; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Charles (Debra) Sergeant, Bill (Sue) Sergeant; her sister-in-law, Barb Sergeant; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends, including her close friend Carol Anderson and Eddie (Candy) Gray.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Howard “Bud” Standish; her parents, Dorothy and Marshall Sargent; her brother, Marshall Sergeant; and her sister, Margaret Sergeant.

Ann will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family will forever cherish the memories of her sassy personality, loving heart, and the special place she held at the center of their family.

A graveside service honoring Ann’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 11am, at Highland Garden of Memories in Belvidere, Illinois.
