Obituary

Fleming Wills Flott "Coach", 84, of Belvidere went to be with Jesus and his precious daughter Muffet of Sept. 22, 2011. Born June 25, 1927 in Chicago, youngest son of Frederick William and Anna Wills (Fleming) Flott. Graduate of Morgan Park Military Academy and was an outstanding athlete. The day after graduation he enlisted in the US Navy and was sent to the Pacific Theater at the end of World War II. Served on an LCI and participated on some of the atom bomb tests. After the Navy he graduated from University of Illinois where he played freshman football and baseball, member of Theta Delta Chi fraternity. Earned his Master's degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison and did further study at Northern Illinois University. Married Susan Haugen on April 10, 1954 in Evanston, IL. He spent 35 years in the teaching profession, 2 years in Astoria, 2 years in Fulton, and 31 years in Belvidere where he taught Physical Education, coached and was a mentor to many young people. His life-long passion was baseball. Played minor league professional ball in the late 40's to early 50's. He was a member of the Chicago Pitch and Hit Club, the Chicago Old Timer's Association and the former Belvidere Pitch and Hit Club and long time season ticket holder of the Chicago White Sox. Member of First Presbyterian Church, Belvidere, where he was a deacon, member of the Bel-Mar Country Club, Belvidere Lion's Club who awarded him a Melvin Jones Fellow, the VFW, Elks Lodge #1440 in Rice Lake, Wisc, NEA, IEA, Belvidere Retired Teacher's Association and a volunteer and supporter of the Special Olympics. Former member of the Belvidere JC's, Kiwanis, and long time leader of the March of Dimes in Boone Co.Survivors include his wife of 57 years Sue, son William, niece Cynthia Carpenter and sister-in-law Dorothy Flott both of S. Carolina, nephew Robert Flott, Jr of California, and numerous cousins. Predeceased by his parents, daughter Margaret Ann in 2007 and 2 brothers.
