Fayne Ann Kniep, age 91, passed away May 20, 2026, at Willowick Moments in Clinton, Wisconsin. She was born April 19, 1935, at her family home in Stanton, Nebraska, to Herman and Margaret Meyer. She graduated from Stanton High School in 1952 and began her working life by teaching for one year in a rural country school. She then pursued nursing, attending the Nebraska School of Nursing in Omaha, where she graduated in 1956. On November 6, 1955, she married Thomas Kniep, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and community while raising their four children. Their first home was in Bridgewater, lowa, before the family moved to Illinois in 1962. Fayne was deeply involved in her children's school activities and found great joy in gardening, flowers, and country living. In 1967, she began working at St. Joseph Hospital, where she served part-time for 25 years. A devoted member of Poplar Grove United Methodist Church, Fayne was active in the choir and gave generously of her time through service on many church committees. She also enjoyed playing golf with friends and treasured time spent with her family. Together, Tom and Fayne made it a priority to attend as many school, sporting, and choral events of their children and grandchildren as possible, creating a legacy of love, support, and steadfast presence that will be remembered by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Kniep; one daughter, Karen Cocquyt; and one son, Kirk Kniep.
She is survived by two sons, Kevin (Sandy) Kniep, Kent (Teri) Kniep, one son in law, Patrick Cocquyt, one daughter in law, Barbara Kniep, nine grandchildren, Nicole (Albert Blanchard) Kniep, Ben (Sarah) Thoele, Krystal (Zach) Jole, Jenna (David Kranz) Kniep, Danielle (Brian) Spangler, Carter Cocquyt, Tara Kniep, Katie Kniep, Kyle Kniep, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Fayne’s memorial visitation will be Friday, June 12, between the hours of 9-11am at Poplar Grove United Methodist Church. Located at 105 E. Grove St. Poplar Grove, IL 61065. Service to follow at 11am.
