Obituary

Everett Eldon Worrell, 90, of Belvidere died peacefully at home August 29, 2022. He was born July 15, 1932 in DeKalb, Il. to Arthur and Norma (Westphal) Worrell. He married his college sweetheart Virginia Ann Brown on September 8, 1951. They met on a band trip while both attending Northern Illinois University. Everett enlisted in the Navy and served four years during the Korean War. After discharge he completed his degree in Education and began teaching Industrial Arts. He went on to obtain a Master's Degree and an Administrative Certificate. After teaching many years at Jefferson High School in Rockford, he became principal at Rockford Area Vocational Center. He was an active member and Elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Belvidere. He taught Sunday school and was a leader in the Spirit Alive program. He was also a Gideon and had worked with CASA. Everett was active in the Boy Scouts for over 60 years achieving the Silver Beaver Award for service. He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan and supporter of the Belvidere Bucs and Belvidere North Blue Thunder teams. He coached BJT football, BYB baseball and softball where he was "Grandpa" to all the girls. Everett was interested in Genealogy and researching his family history. He loved traveling and working on puzzles. Everett loved his family and was very loved in return. He lived a faithful life and was an amazing husband,father and grandfather. He will be sorely missed. Everett is preceded in death by his wife Virginia; parents; sister, Phyllis Holt; and infant children, Everett Jr. and daughter Deborah. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Withee ( Raymond ); son, David ( Joanne ) Worrell; sister, Donna Fiorenza; granddaughters, Rebecca Girardin (Pete), Lydia Riley (Steve), Naomi Ziegler (Leo Gomez), Martha Ziegler, Margaret Friesema (Jim), Kathryn Hallstrom (Jamie), Joanie Gee (Jeremiah), Julie Brown (Charlie), Joy Drydahl (Mike); 24 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., Friday, September 2, 2022, at the First Presbyterian Church, 221 North Main Street, Belvidere, IL., 61008. Dr Rev. Kopp will officiate. The burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday September 6, 2022, at Scottish Argyle Cemetery in Caledonia, IL. Memorials in his honor to Gideons and to the church.
