Evelyn C. Pyszka, 99, passed away on June 17th, 2018 at her son's home in Rockford. Born May 19, 1919 in Fairfax, IA, Evelyn was the daughter of Earl J. and Eva Lefebure Sullivan in DeKalb, IL. She received her BS ('41) and MS ('70) from Northern Illinois University. She started as a Home Service Advisor for IL Northern Utilities where she educated homemakers on the features and benefits of using a gas stove. She then taught Home Economics for 26 years at Belvidere Junior High School. For several years, her classes competed in and won the state cherry pie contest.
Evelyn married Robert S. Pyszka in 1942 and the union produced 1 daughter, Betty Jane and 2 sons, Robert E. and William P. She was a charter member of the Belvidere chapter of ADK, an honor society for women educators, and a charter member of the Belvidere Retired Teachers Association. Evelyn was also a Pink Lady volunteer, and a former Boone County Democratic chair.
She was pre-deceased by her parents; brother, Earl J. Sullivan, Jr.; husband, Bob; daughter, Betty Jane (Cory); and grandson, Michael Pyszka. Survivors include sons, Bob (Debi) & Bill; beloved former Daughter-in-Law, Teresa Pyszka; cherished former Son-in-Law, Sam Cory (Liz); grandchildren, Patrick (Emily), Douglas (Alexis), Heather (Brad Johnson), Melinda (Vasili Avramopoulos), and Shawn (Christie) and Ryan (Breane) Cory; 11 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11-12 p.m. on June 23rd with services immediately following at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services (formerly Buck-Wheeler Hyland). Internment will follow services at Highland Garden of Memories. Special thanks go to Heartland Hospice, and to "T," Carol, and other caregivers from Home Instead. Memorial contributions will be used for creating scholarships.
