Obituary

Eula Jean Smith, 89, of Belvidere, died Friday, May 11, 2012 in Swedish American Hospital, Belvidere. Born April 25, 1923 in Freeport, IL, daughter of Merle and Ethel (Erwin) Lawfer. Married James F. Smith in Woodstock. Worked for Grimm-Nash-Coleman Insurance Agency for 25 years, member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was in the choir and the Sarah Circle, former president of the Belvidere Professional Women's Club, member of Single Friends, formerly belonged to Salvation Army Home League, Boone County Extension, the Cherry-O-s group, founding member of the Silver Belles singers of the Keenage Center, volunteered for Highland Hospital Auxiliary, volunteered for the Boone County Fair as a cashier at the grange food building. Eula Jean enjoyed music, reading, solving crossword puzzles, Scrabble, and was a huge Jeopardy fan. She also loved to cook and bake.Survivors include her sons M.J. "Jay" (Linda) of Lexington, Mass, Kerry (Dorothy Dawn) of Rockford, brother Richard Lawfer, many cousins, nieces and nephews, in-laws Winston (Josephine) Smith, Edwin (Helen) Smith, Joseph (Lucille) Smith, and Lou Ann Lawfer Predeceased by her parents, husband James, brothers Freeman and Kenneth Lawfer.

Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church or to the Boone County Council on Aging.
