Rockford, IllinoisEugene I. Housman, 60, of Rockford, IL died Monday morning, March 24, 2008 in Swedish American Hospital with his family at his side after a three month battle with cancer. Gene was born March 28, 1947 in Huron, South Dakota the son of Raymond and Fannie (Berger) Housman. He married Marilyn Grimsby June 30, 1970 in Belvidere, IL. Eugene had an endless love for his family, especially his grandchildren. He always made the time to play "dress-up" with the girls, cherished the computer time spent with Jason and sharing his infectious smile with his family. Although his work required him to travel extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad, his family always came first. Gene was a contract process engineer for many years. His job entailed working with companies to solve specific problems relating to manufacturing such as factory set up, training, assembly flow and making sure that all elements fit the big picture. He did work for various corporations including Chrysler, Honda, Ford, and most recently John Deere. Gene will be remembered for his great work ethic, his ability to mentor and the happiness and life he brought to people; he loved the human race and had a very giving heart.Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Rockford; children, Marcus (Kelly) of Portage, WI, Nicole (Andy) Poffinbarger of Rockford; grandchildren, McKenzie and Hannah Housman, Jason and Ruby Poffinbarger; sister, Peggy (Don) Larsen of Vermillion, S.D.; brother, Roy (Sharon) Housman of Rapid City, S.D.; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.Eugene is predeceased by his parents.

A memorial will be established in his name in care of the family.
