Ethel M. Lee, 83, of Belvidere, IL passed away peacefully, early Wednesday morning, September 10, 2014 in Northwoods Care Centre after a lingering illness. Ethel was born September 25, 1930 in Belvidere, IL the daughter of Glyndon and Emma (Humbracht) Hammond. She married Gordon L. Lee on July 16, 1948 in Belvidere. Ethel retired from Food Services for Chrysler in 1995. She enjoyed raising her grandchildren and dining at local restaurants. She like spending time at the Boone County Fair especially watching the horse races and the country music performers. Ethel was a member of Prairie Grange and a former member of the VFW, American Legion and Moose Auxiliaries.
Ethel is loved and will be missed by her children, Peggy (Bob) Ramsey of Milan, IN, Lyle (Patti) Lee of Belvidere and David (Margie) Lee of Rockford; Eleven Grandchildren; Twenty Great-grandchildren; Seven Great-Great grandchildren; sister, Patsy Feltz of Belvidere; brother, Gordon (Pat) Hammond of Belvidere; sisters in-law, Shirley Lee and Shirley Myers both of Garden Prairie, Ruth Romans of Cherry Valley; brother in-law, Russell Lee of Poplar Grove; numerous nieces and nephews. Ethel is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon; grandson, Todd Mathes; great-grandson, Christopher Cartwright; Great-granddaughter, Angelina Januse; brothers Harold, Glyndon, Bill, LeRoy and Ronald; brothers in-law, Emory, Ray, Kenny, Stan, Robert, Howard and Bob Myers.
The family acknowledges the Staff and personnel of Northwoods Care Center and Transitions Hospice for the gentle loving care they gave to Ethel.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, September 15, 2014 in Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Chapel, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave. Belvidere, IL with Rev. Nord Swanstrom, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be from noon to service time on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery.
