Eleanor L. Gable, 95, of Belvidere, Illinois, passed away on August 3, 2026. She was born in DeKalb, Illinois, to Harold and Garnet (Gibson) Smith. A 1948 graduate of Rochelle High School, Eleanor married Charles L. "Chuck" Gable on May 8, 1965, in Monroe Center, Illinois. Chuck preceded her in death on June 19, 2019.

Eleanor worked at Sundstrand for 32 years before retiring in 1991. She was a faithful member of Flora Community Church. She and Chuck enjoyed traveling, especially to Alaska. Eleanor also enjoyed playing cards, attending bingo and Bible study, and, most of all, spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Judy (Carl) McClenthen and Beverly Callow; and daughter-in-law, Tracy Walk; grandchildren, Kristen Callow, Rick (Lisa) McClenthen, Adam (Andrea) McClenthen, Kyle (Mary Beth) Walk, and Kory (Alexis) Walk; great-grandchildren, Avery McClenthen and Kohen, Adley, and Kooper Walk; sister-in-law, Arlene Smith; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clark and Gayle Gable.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chuck; her son, Karl Walk; and her siblings, Margaret Milligan, Norma Jean McArthur, Mary Frank, and Jerry Smith.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Heritage Woods of Belvidere, Maple Crest, and Sanctuary Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

Eleanor’s final wish was a special thank you to Judy.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. memorial service at Flora Community Church, 1410 Flora Church Road, Kirkland, IL 60146. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Flora Community Church.
