Poplar Grove- Edwin P. Allen 69Edwin P. Allen 69 of Poplar Grove Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and Uncle entered into heaven September 24, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. Edwin was born April 24, 1937 in Chicago IL the son of Edwin Allen and Elizabeth (Ihm) Allen. Edwin graduated high school in Chicago and married the love of his life Mildred (Nemlaha) Allen on June 18, 1960 in Our Lady of the Angels Church in Chicago. Edwin worked as an electrician for General Motors for 21 years before retiring in 2002. He served in the Army and Army reserves from 1955 to 1962. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere. Edwin was also President of the Lions Club of Poplar Grove, and a member of the Moose Lodge. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, and also loved to hunt and fish. Survivors of his family include his loving wife, Mildred Allen; adoring children Thomas (Margaret) Allen, Margaret (Joe) Oskorep, and Nancy (Randy) Little; cherished grandchildren Michael Allen, Jenirose (Aaron) Statler, Zachary Hillmann, and Michelle and Michael Oskorep; and fond great grandfather of Cory and Natalie Statler. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, son Gregory Allen, brother Daniel Allen, and sister Rosemary Williams. Services have been scheduled for Saturday September 30 9:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere with Father Thomas Brantman officiating. Visitation will be held the evening prior from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Woodstock. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
