Edward T. Stone, 96, of Belvidere, Ill. died Monday, March 31, 2008 in Maplecrest Nursing Home following a long illness. He was born November 4, 1911 in La Porte, Ind., son of Lee and Minnie (Hart) Stone. Ed married Cecil Gridley in Hammond, Ind. in 1932. She preceded him in death. He later married Darlene (Koch) Stone in Belvidere on April 5, 1941. Ed was manager of A & P Tea Company for seventeen years in Illinois, Indiana and Michigan; then later for Sanitary Scale Company of Belvidere for two years. He retired from Barber Coleman Company of Rockford in 1976 with thirty-five years of service. He was a charter member of Boone County Garden Club; member of Immanuel Lutheran Church; the 60 and over club; the Young at Heart Singers; and Boone County Historical Society. He is survived by his wife, Darlene and son, Dennis E. Stone, both of Belvidere; his two daughters, Karen (Tom) Parrish, Tyler Tex. and Charlotte Grayson, of Florida; four grandchildren, Jeff and Valerie Grayson of Florida; Deven (Deanna) Parrish, Kempner, Tex.; Adam (Sarah) Parrish, Mountain Grove, Missouri; five great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Clayton and Delaney Parrish all of Kempner, Tex. and Austin and Collin Parrish of Mountain Grove, Missouri. Ed has a sister, Frances Beck of Indianapolis, Ind. and a brother, Cyril "Bud" Stone of Elkhart, Ind. as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his first wife, he is also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Carol Lee Hora, two sisters, Helen Little and Margaret Black and two brothers, Leo and Robert Stone.
