Douglas R. "Doug" Dunkin, 57, of Rockford, formerly of Belvidere, died at 9:41 P.M. Sunday, February 22, 2009, in Swedish American Hospital following a sudden illness. Doug was born in Antioch, CA, on October 6, 1951, the son of George and Gertie Berry Dunkin. On October 7, 1982, he married Jacqueline "Jackie" Sommerfield in Belvidere. Doug was employed as an assembly worker by Chrysler from 1970-92. He loved tinkering in his garage, fishing, riding his Harley, and building cars and motorcycles.Survivors include his wife, Jackie, of Belvidere; children Lisa (Tom) Argue, Machesney Park; Travis (April) Dunkin, Rockford; Robbin (Sammy) Myer-Presley, Rockford; Travis (Molly) Evans, Belvidere; and Darin Dunkin, Rockford; brothers and sisters Gracie Onstott in MO; Leo Dunkin, Rockford; Cleo Styers, Rockford; Linda Bowker, Rockford; and Stanley Dunkin, Rockford; and eight grandchildren. Doug was predeceased by his parents, son Tim, sister Helen, brother George, nephew Jeffrey, and niece Georgia.
