Dorris Claire St. John, 95, of Green Valley, AZ, formerly of Belvidere, died Saturday, November 1, 2008, in Arizona. Dorris was born in Chicago on June 23, 1913, the daughter of George and Zoa Clark Comstock. She married Byron B. St. John in Henry, IL, on June 23, 1937. A 1931 graduate of Belvidere High School and member of the National Honor Society, she attended Northwestern University in 1931 and received a teaching certificate from Northern Illinois State Teacher's College in 1933. She received both her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education from Northern Illinois University where she earned the distinguished honor of being a member of Phi Lambda Theta. Dorris taught school in Belvidere for 30 years. She was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church and a founding member of BYKOTA. A resident of Belvidere for 68 years, Dorris moved to Mesa, AZ in 1976, and became active in the Daughters of the Nile. Dorris was a resident of Green Valley, AZ, the past seven years.Survivors include daughters Judith (David) Peterson of Monona, WI, and Joanne Ball of Whitehall, MT; son Jay (June) St. John of Green Valley, AZ; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Byron, son Benjamin, brothers Eli and Herbert Comstock, and sisters Adelaide Schauer and Daisy Pratt.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund has been established in Dorris' memory with the Sahuarita Educational Enrichment Foundation, 350 Sahuarita Rd., Sahuarita, AZ 85629.
