Dorothy Lee Shenberger -Nelson, 95, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herbert W. Nelson, her son Michael H. Nelson, and her siblings Clarence, Phyllis, Betty, and William.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters Ginger (Ron) Wood and Penny (Steve) Lindstrom, as well as her cherished grandchildren Jason (Lucy) Nelson, Michael H. Nelson, Valisa (Sean) Ross, Jessica (Lukas) Davies, Seth (Erin) Lindstrom, and Mitch (Taylor) Lindstrom.

She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Sebastian Nelson, Gavin and Camden Ross, Landon, Jacob, Carter, Tyler, Madison, Liam, and Isla Lindstrom, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Dorothy had a lifelong passion for baking and crochet. She found her greatest joy in her family and had a special love for children — especially babies. Her kindness, patience, and warmth touched everyone she met.

And informal Celebration of Life, the way Dorothy would have welcomed, will be on Saturday, October 25th from 2:00–5:00 PM at Lombardi Club, 209 Olive Street, Rockford, IL 61107.

Dorothy's family invites all who knew and loved her to join in remembering a remarkable woman whose love and laughter will live on in their hearts forever.
