Dorothy Margaret Perkins, nee Fondell, 88, died Wednesday, September 26, 2012 in Glenbrook Hospital, Glenview, Illinois three days before her 89th birthday. Dorothy was born on September 29, 1923 in Dubuque, Iowa to Elizabeth and Nicholas Fondell. Dorothy was one of nine brothers and sisters. Dorothy moved to Chicago when she was 16, graduated high school, and attended and graduated Loyola University in Chicago.Dorothy worked for many years as an Executive Assistant to the President of Chicago Press, where she met her future husband, Gail Perkins. Dorothy and Gail were married on July 18, 1959 in Belvidere, Illinois. They were married 44 wonderful years, when Gail passed away in February 2003. Dorothy and Gail loved to travel, and their trips included a safari in Africa, visiting China before it was available to visit for many tourists, London many times to see plays, cruises to Alaska, Scandinavia, trips to Italy, and New York City, where they enjoyed seeing many plays over the years. Dorothy is survived; by her sister Eileen and; her husband Dean Jewett of Dubuque, Iowa; her sister Betty Fondell Schwartz and Betty's husband Jack of Green Valley, Arizona; her sister, Sr. Mary Bonita Fondell, of St. Francis in Dubuque, Iowa; her sister-in-law, Betty Fondell, widow of her brother Harold, who passed away earlier this year, of St. Donatus, Iowa; Janette Fondell, widow of brother John of Dubuque, Iowa; and fer sister-in-law, Brita Perkins, widow of Myron Perkins, Belvidere, Illinois. Dorothy is survived by many nieces and nephews and her previous caregiver, Oyuna (Amy), all of whom loved her very much. Dorothy was preceded in death by brothers, Francis, Donald, Harold, John and Robert.
