Belvidere, ILDorothy Anna Franke, 91, of Belvidere, IL died peacefully, Saturday evening, November 9, 2013 in Park Place of Belvidere after a lengthy illness. Dorothy was born in Boone County, IL on January 27, 1922, the daughter of Arthur and Valda Mary (Baars) Britton. She graduated from Belvidere High School in the class of 1940. She married Karl R. Franke on June 21, 1941 in Belvidere. Dorothy was a bookkeeper for Highland hospital as well as a clerk for Belvidere Ace Hardware for several years and attended Rock Valley College. Dorothy was a member of St. John's united Church of Christ and a member of the Fellowship Circle; she was a member for over 75 years and past master of County Line Grange; member and served 32 years as Secretary of the Boone County Pomona Grange; member of Illinois State and National Grange. Dorothy was a former 4-H leader; former member and past president of Highland Hospital Auxiliary, served as a "pink Lady" and was manager of the hospital's snack shop for over 15 years. Dorothy was a former board member and past chairman of Region 1-A of Illinois Hospital Association and was a recipient of the Leadership 1&2 Awards. She was a coordinator of Grange Food Service at the Boone County Fair for many years; chaired the re-location committee of "Reed School" to the Boone County Fair Grounds; former member of the Boone County Community Building Complex Committee serving during the re-vitalization phase. Dorothy received the Belvidere Chamber of Commerce's "Doctor of Civic Betterment Award in 1989. Dorothy was a member of Guilford Gleaners, Home Bureau and Spring Ladies Home Mission. The family would like to thank the staff at Park Place, formerly Home Bridge and to Family Centered hospice for their love, care and support.Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Lloyd) Janeway; grandchildren, Phyllis (Ron) Brown, Daralee (Jeff) Bollock, Mike (Kim) Janeway; great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Emily and Matt Brown, Sara, McKenzie and Blake Bollock, Katarina and MaKayla Janeway; great-great grandchildren Izaiah and Jayden; as well as other family members including Luanna, Shelley and Tim; Cassandra, Vanessa and Clairissa; Randy, Rolland and Derek. Dorothy is preceded in death by husband, Karl Franke; parents Art and Valda Britton; son in-laws Darrell Kesterson and Gene Lein; special friend Don Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in Dorothy's name to her family.
